The Corner of This and This and This.

Although I was a bit saddened to return home after my trip to Cleveland, I wasn't at all upset to see Andy again. We spent the day after my return wondering around some of our local favorites. This involved checking out the new exhibit at The Mansfield Art Center, featuring work done by high schoolers in the surrounding areas. The level of skill shown about the exhibit was amazing. It's good to see so much talent coming out of the small towns circling Mansfield.
After our tour around the Art Center, Andy and I stumbled upon a church rummage sale across the street. I learned there that I do not know how a rummage sale is orchestrated. But, don't worry, guys. A woman working the sale was very quick to point out my mistake of picking out things I wanted to buy, then asking where I should pay for them. I was asked to return to the stands of each item, and individually pay for all of them. And, she wasn't rude AT ALL. Sensing sarcasm? Woopsies. Although, I did not find excellent customer service at the sale, I did uncover a few more books to add to my collection. One of  these included a first edition Bob Dylan authored book, which I later found is going for nearly two-hundred dollars. So, I guess I can't complain.
We moseyed our way downtown for our usual Buckeye Bakery visit. I blame this establishment solely for sabotaging any hope of being bikini-ready. Have one of their scotch bars, and you will understand why. Jeez.  After hitting up Main Street Books and Relax, It's Just Coffee, where I was finally able to redeem a coupon, we headed home to lazily enjoy the rest of my day off. As much as I've been talking about getaways lately, it is nice to have days that remind you why you love where you're from. I definitely needed one of those.
That's all for me, readers. Enjoy your weekend!

With love,
Heather

Style Icon: Clementine Kruczynski

Oh, my darling.
Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind is my absolute favorite movie. In short, it is about a man opting to remove his lover from his memory after learning that she, too, had erased him. Through the process, Joel finds himself regretting the decision to dispose of the woman he loved, after realizing the good memories between the two would be lost with the tragic and horrid ones. However, without spoiling it for those of you who haven't seen the film, the two are truly in love. And, in the words of the great Daniel Johnston, true love will find you in the end. As if the plot weren't enough to captivate you, the editing and visuals in the movie are UHH-mazing. It is honestly director Michel Gondry's best piece of work. And, no matter how many times I watch it, I am still in awe at the perfection that is Clementine Kruczynski. Impulsive, inappropriate, free-spirited; what's not to love. My own love for the character runs deep; I dyed my hair every color I could after seeing the movie and plan to get a tattoo inspired by my darling Clementine.

Outfit: Dear Miss Lonelyhearts

Timothy took these photos for me right after we demolished grilled cheese sandwiches the size of our heads at Melt. It was cloudy, humid, and sprinkling almost the entire day in Cleveland, so I had to opt for a hat to hide my frizzy, crazed hair. Tim assured me that it was completely "on point", though. I guess, I'll take his word for it.
I'm off to work, readers. Have a lovely day.
Until next time,
Heather.

Back in the City

I had so much fun during my visit with my best friend from college, Timothy. I hadn't seen him in almost a year before my trip yesterday, so we had a ton to catch up on; there was not a second of silence. Our adventures first began with a few minutes of utter excitement from both of us, still in awe that we were finally reunited. I'm sure we caused a bit of a scene with our hugging, jumping up and down, and kindergarten squeals. We laughed pretty much the whole time, reliving every ridiculous moment and inside joke from our freshman year.
Before heading out to start our day around the city, I made a pit-stop at the CSU bookstore, where I used to work, to see a few of my favorite co-workers and boss. Working at Viking Outfitters was honestly the best job I've had so far, so it was nice to drop in and see what everyone has been up to. Tim and I  then proceeded to visit all of our old favorite places, including a few shops in Coventry, Melt restaurant, and public square. I had a blast walking around my beloved campus again, and got pretty emotional about being back in my old apartment building. It was like nostalgia on steroids, people.
As much as I enjoyed my stay, it was bittersweet to have to commute back to reality. I so much would have liked to just say goodnight to Tim, walk up to where my old apartment is, and call it a night. Its really strange to just "visit" a place where you expected to live, well, permanently. But, alas, life has a tendency to throw obstacles in our paths that change our plans. This trip definitely motivated me to start thinking about getting back into school and on my own again, though. And, I know it may be in my own time and way, but I'm excited to get to a career and location that better suits what I want out of life.
Alright, I'll leave on a lighter note with a few webcam photos of Tim and I since we didn't have anyone to take our picture for us.

Until next time,
Heather

A Little Review

The song above is from the newest album by Cold War Kids. I used to be completely obsessed with them, but kind of fell of their bandwagon after their second album came out; I was just too in love with the debut Robbers and Cowards to be open to anything else, I guess. But, the bands fourth record, Dear Miss Lonelyhearts, has completely restored my love and faith in Cold War Kids. Seriously people, every time one of the tracks starts playing on my iTunes via shuffle, I end up just listening to the album. All the way through. Once or twice...or even thrice. It's that good.
I know a music review may not be all that compelling to some of you readers, but I wanted to make quick appearance since I've been on somewhat of a hiatus from my usual blogging schedule. To be honest, I've just felt very uninspired and exhausted lately. I have a tendency to fall into these ruts where it seems like everything and everyone sucks, and I have no idea what the point of anything is. I know, pretty angsty stuff, right? Its a quality and way of thinking that I am trying to shake, slowly but surely.
Today, however, should in fact pull me completely out of this funk. I'm visiting one of my favorite people in the world, in one of my favorite places in the world. Expect a lot of pictures and feels, bloggers.

With love,
Heather

P.S. I'd like to take a second to acknowledge the events that occurred in Boston yesterday. My heart feels for all of the victims, any person who knows a loved one involved, and this entire country. It's scary to think how sudden tragedy can strike, and how quickly fear can spread. But, this is not a time to lose hope in humanity. It is a time to promote and practice it. We love you, Boston. And, we also love and recognize people who lose their lives in thoughtless violence like this everyday.
"Praying for those in Boston today. For those in Iraq where 20 bombs were set off today. Praying for the 29 that were killed in Somalia because of a bomb set off yesterday. Praying for the thousands of innocent victims of U.S. drones in Pakistan, Afghanistan, Yemen, Somalia. Praying for everyone. Praying for this whole world. Because every life matters and because they are all equally important."

On the Road

My best girl-friend and writer of Fancy That , Ashley, and I took a day-trip to Columbus for a brief escape from our shanty, small town. The day was full of Spring shopping, artery-clogging food, hookah, and adventuring. We started at Easton Town Center, where I was honored to introduce Ashley to the greasy and delicious world of Five Guys Burgers and Fries. After we had done enough damage to our bank accounts, we headed to High Street to get hookah and browse some of the local shops. Unfortunately for us, most of the smaller establishments closed before we could make our rounds. Instead, we settled on Jeni's Splendid Ice Cream, which happens to be open until 11 pm. Clearly, they know what's up.
Ashley and I ended the day with a quick trip to Urban Outfitters, so that I could try to find Andy a birthday present. Alas, I left with jeans and a dress for myself. That boy is just impossible to shop for, and I am getting increasingly nervous about not scoring the perfect gift for his 25th. One thing I wasn't disappointed with while browsing was getting to see part of the "Take Back the Night" march that was going on. I had never heard of the event, but Ashley, after dislocating my arm (just kidding, Ash), was quick to point out the walkers and explain what it was all about. After learning it was centered around putting an end to assault, rape, and other violence towards women, I am completely on board to join the next march. Too cool.
We made our way back home with the windows down and music on, both feeling much better about some things that had been bringing us down. Sometimes a getaway, no matter how short, is all a person really needs. However, I do wish it had lasted a tad bit longer now that I'm back to the reality of working all weekend. You take what you can get, I suppose.
Life is really speeding up over here, readers. I'm all set to visit my dearest friend from Cleveland next week for some catching up that is long over-due. I have to admit that I am quite nervous about being back on my former college campus, simply for what kind of emotion it could stir. Seeing Timothy, however, will be more than worth it. He's a peach, and I cannot wait to take loads of pictures of all of our old favorite spots. I'm about to cry just thinking about it, jeez.
I'll sign off before I have to grab a tissue.
Until next time,
Heather.
